Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Lead and take ownership of electrical engineering deliverables for oil & gas EPC projects, providing technical direction to junior engineers and acting as primary technical interface with clients, vendors, and other disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and technical review of all electrical engineering deliverables, including SLDs, cable schedules, load lists, hazardous area classification, earthing/grounding systems, lighting/small power design
  • Perform and independently verify complex electrical calculations: short circuit analysis (IEC 60909), load flow, arc flash, motor starting, voltage drop, and earthing/grounding design (IEEE 80)
  • Lead Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for electrical and CP equipment packages, including development of weighted scoring criteria, technical query (TQ) registers, and risk assessments
  • Review and approve vendor engineering documents (drawings, datasheets, calculation reports) and issue formal technical review comments in accordance with client procedures
  • Provide technical mentorship and quality checking for junior/mid-level electrical design engineers, reviewing their deliverables prior to internal/client submission
  • Interface directly with clients, licensors, and vendors during design reviews, technical clarification meetings, and vendor negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous area classification requirements (IEC 60079 series / API RP 500 / NEC as applicable) and coordinate equipment selection accordingly
  • Manage electrical discipline input to Master Document Registers (MDR), man-hour estimates, and project schedules; coordinate deliverable interfaces with other disciplines (instrumentation, mechanical, civil/structural, process)
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, API RP 651, NACE SP0193, EN standards) and project/client specifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree an advantage)
  • 8-15+ years of experience in electrical design engineering within EPC environments, with substantial experience in oil & gas / petrochemical / refinery projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical design packages from FEED through detailed design and construction support
  • Strong background in cathodic protection (ICCP) system design and vendor package evaluation is highly desirable
  • Proven experience conducting and leading Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) and vendor document reviews
  • Advanced knowledge of IEC 60909, IEC 60079-10-1, IEEE 80, IEC 61439, API RP 651, NACE SP0193, and EN 12954/EN 16299 (CP-related standards)
  • Expertise in hazardous area classification and equipment certification (ATEX/IECEx/NEC)
  • Ability to independently verify and challenge vendor engineering calculations
  • Familiarity with EPC project documentation systems (MDR, TQ registers, RAG-status tracking)
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability for junior engineering staff
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills in English (formal correspondence, review comments, TBE reports)
